Newton Tree Conservancy

Tree Planting Process

This service blueprint helps visualize the tree planting process

for new board members and the local community.

MY ROLE: Service + UX Designer TEAM: Director of the NTC board and myself TIMELINE: 2 weeks

EMPATHIZE / DEFINE THE PROBLEM

This Conservancy is more than just planting trees on berms. Some of this process is explained online (in prose form), but most of it I learned by being involved with the conservancy as the Social Media Manager. I realized it would be much easier for Newton Homeowners to understand this process if it were summarized and visualized on our website.

This service map shows each step of the tree application process but I still wanted to add more visuals.

IDEATE

In Option 1, I created this summary timeline to clarify and quickly summarize each step in a fun, more usable way. I used the black and green colors and brand fonts for brand consistency. I liked the icons, but the black felt a little harsh here.

In Option 2, I replaced the black with dark grey for lighter feel. I received feedback that it was still confusing who is involved in each step, so I added people icons.

In Option 3 layout, clarifying swim lanes and which party is responsible for which step

PROTOTYPE / TESTING

I will show these 2 concepts to the NTC Board of Directors for review/approval (A/B testing) before integrating on Squarespace website.
